Over at Slate, Juliet Lapidos asks writers for books they think are overrated, "because philistinism loves company." Always a fun exercise. My choice: The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It's so dull! (Although I have heard it includes a funny moment wherein Dick Diver becomes so annoyed by his wife that he wants 'to grind her face into a bowl of jelly.') Also on my "overrated" list: high-end cupcakes, pork belly.
